Where can I hide from your Spirit?

O Lord, you have searched me and known me.
You know when I sit down and when I rise up;
you discern my thoughts from far away.
You search out my path and my lying down
and are acquainted with all my ways.
Even before a word is on my tongue, O Lord,
you know it completely.
Behind and before, you encircle me,
and rest your hand upon me.
Such knowledge is too wonderful for me;
it is so high that I cannot attain it.
Where can I hide from your Spirit?
From your presence, where can I flee?
If I ascend to heaven, you are there;
if I make my bed in Sheol, you are there.
If I fly with the wings of dawn
and alight beyond the sea,
even there your hand shall guide me,
your right hand hold me fast.
If I say, “Surely the darkness shall cover me,
and night wraps itself around me,”
even the darkness is not dark to you;
the night is as bright as the day,
for darkness is as light to you.
You formed my inmost being;
you knit me in my mother’s womb.
I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.
Wonderful are your works; my very self you knew.
My bones were not hidden from you,
when I was being made in secret,
intricately woven in the depths of the earth.
Your eyes foresaw my actions.
In your book all my days are written,
when none of them as yet existed.
How precious to me are your designs, O God!
How vast the sum of them!
Were I to count, they would outnumber the sands.
To finish, I would need eternity...
Search me, O God, and know my heart;
Try me and know my thoughts.
See if my way is crooked,
and lead me in the way everlasting.
